You've got your "must-have's" too, right? Sure…we all do.
As for me, price, utility, looks and performance are all deciding factors, and Subaru's Crosstrek checks all those boxes for me.
Price? From the mid to high $20's, loaded they're still low to mid $30's. Today that's a deal.

Utility? Well, this is just me talkin', but if you don't have a pickup in the family, a hatchback is pretty much a must. It's just so much easier to carry large objects than trying to stuff them in a trunk.
Looks? That's subjective, of course, but sitting 8.7 inches above the ground with black cladding covering all the right corners, the all-wheel-drive Crosstrek looks a bit more muscular than the average hatchback, and it is.

Performance? Well, it's fast enough to get you there, but "there" is part of the performance story. As noted above, Subie's Crosstrek may not come in first in the Baja 1000, but it's high ground clearance and standard all-wheel-drive will certainly will get you down some sandy, muddy, snowy roads much more reliably than the average non-4WD vehicle. And getting there, after all, is kinda' the point, right?

So, if you're thinkin' Crosstrek, they come in five different trim levels, but even the base editions will give you alloys and Subaru's "Eyesight" safety system. Evesight gives you not only auto braking and lane-centering, but also brings pre-collision emergency steering and throttle input -- features that I've never seen on any other vehicle. While you may never feel safe seeing your teen leaving on their first "solo" ( or anytime thereafter ), Subaru has designed in a high level of peace of mind.
Option-up your Crosstrek and you'll move from the $20's to the $30's. Going from 17" to 18" alloys, from cloth to leather, from 152 to 182 HP, and to more features and trim all around.

Now, if you like the basic idea of the Crosstrek, but don't need the altitude and attitude that the Crosstrek rolls with, Subaru makes an Impreza that's essentially a lower-riding and more humble version of the Crosstrek that'll save you a couple thousand bucks. Subaru lets you make the call as to how you go, high or low.
