Is this America's new "Family Car"?

Well…if it is, Lucky You!

But yes…with Chevy dropping several of its sedans, their iconic Silverado seems to be showing up in more and more driveways.

And for good reason.   Especially in LTZ trim.

Why?

'Cause it's pretty much got everything that you'd want.

Now if just totin' a load is all you need to do, you can still get a two-seat, long-bed work truck for around thirty thousand.

But if you're like most folks, you've grown fond of some of the finer things in life…and you want 'em while you roll…right?

And that's where the LTZ kicks in for you.

Stretch-out room for five in heated and ventilated leather up front, heated steering…and with around five thousand in packages, premium nav, voice recognition, personalized in-vehicle apps, Bose Premium audio, all your expected alerts, front and rear park assist, sunroof, surround-vision, an in-bed cam, and a heads-up display.

The bargain on the options page just might be Chevy's Z71 Off-Road package,,,especially if you're going to ask your truck to do truck stuff.

$1,470 gets you big twin-tube shocks, a skid plate, hill descent control, a 2-speed transfer case, bedliner, Z71 trim and 20" polished alloys.

Another option that anyone under 6' will appreciate are the retractable passenger assist steps.    That $1,695 should prove to be a user-friendly option that'll make your LTZ much easier to live with over the years.

And speaking of "over the years", our test Silverado had Chevy's 3.0 six-cylinder turbo diesel.    277 HP and a whoppin' 460 ft lbs of torque.   Runs like a V-8 and sips fuel like a 4-cylinder.   Virtually smoke and fume-free with 22 city and 26 Hwy MPG #'s.

But in my opinion, the #1 "must have" option on any Silverado is their Multi-Flex tailgate.   For a mere $260, you get a 6-way tailgate that'll extend your bed by 10" or more…and convert into a flip-down step that makes access to your bed a simple two-step procedure.   Love it.

As you'd imagine, your choice of cabs and bed lengths spans the spectrum.   With the roomy Crew cab, the short bed is 70"…and you can get a long bed with a roughly 79 ½ " bed.   But remember, get that Multi-flex tailgate and you'll have a few more ways to extend your short bed when needed.

Now while the Silverado's $63,990 window-sticker is a bit above the average new vehicle price of around 45K, the price is right in line with the competition, and a Silverado with this level of equipment and performance should give you all you need or want for years to come.
