'Familiar system' has Falcons defense set up for another successful season
While the Atlanta Falcons are heading into the 2026 season with several changes which include a new offensive system under new head coach Kevin Stefanski, the potential of new quarterback, as Tua Tagovailoa could possibly be named the starter for Week 1 and now in the wake of a season ending injury to Jalon Walker and a possible suspension of James Pearce Jr., several changes on defense.
However, while the Falcons look to adjust to some of the newness, defensive back, Mike Hughes believes the Falcons’ defense is in a good place. “To come in and be familiar with a system, not come in and have to learn a whole new system, it’s great,” Hughes said when he joined 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell following Friday’s practice and explained the importance of Jeff Ulbrich remaining as Atlanta’s defensive coordinator despite several other coaching changes.
“I feel like we’re a step ahead than we were last year at this point and it’s good having [Jeff] Ulbrich back and being around the guys and bringing on new guys, having them buy into the system and what we’re doing, it’s been fun so far,” Hughes said of the Falcons’ defensive unit.Falcons defense in 'great' place with no system change
