Each year Atlanta's Caribbean community comes together to celebrate carnival, which is a traditional celebration of the changing of the seasons, the harvest and an opportunity to people to show pride in the island that they are from.
Each year, you'll see costumes with huge features and head pieces. The more elaborate costume the more prominence that family and or family member has. The colors typically are representative of your country. Each year a county is also honored, and this year is dedicated to Dominica.
Carnival usually happens in the spring leading up to Memorial Day Weekend, and there are parades, food, music, a countless amount of events and more.
There have already been a number of events leading up to the big weekend, but Memorial Day Weekend events of the Atlanta Caribbean Carnival kicks off on May 24 with Jouvert, then continues though the weekend.
