LISTEN NOW: Nick E. Tarabay and Steven S. DeKnight on 'Spartacus: House Of Ashur'

Welcome to the House of Ashur. No longer a slave, Ashur has clawed his way to power, owning the same ludus that once owned him. But ruling a band of merciless gladiators is child's play compared to surviving the savage world of Roman politics.

Actor Nick E. Tarabay (Ashur) and Steven S. DeKnight (Showrunner / Executive Producer) stop to chat with Romeo International on Audacy about the new series and why people will love it as once before.

Romeo International: "How did you manage to maintain the love people had for the original show while introducing this new series?"

Steven S. DeKnight: "Really for me, it's a continuation of the show. I wanted that same feeling. I wanted the characters to be new, but within the world that we had created. So it was that balance, for the original fans, I wanted them to feel welcomed back into this world that they knew and loved, while also introducing new elements to keep it interesting and keep their interest. And for people who have never seen the show, I wanted it to hook them as quickly as possible. Do the setup so they get the lay of the land and then let's get that story moving."

Romeo International: "Do you still want people to see Ashur the same as where he left off in the original Spartacus series?

Nick E. Tarabay: "I want the people to see him, however they want to see him, to be honest with you, Romeo. It’s up to the people. I don't get involved so much into that. I just honor the writing. I honor the story. What I love about Ashur provokes certain feelings from people, and that alone is exciting for me, because the way you receive something is completely different than anyone else is going to receive it. So for me to try to box my performance or to box how [the] audience react to this, it would be unfair. It would be taking a lot of that joy out. So I do what I do and I leave it to the gods, sort of speak."
