As winter weather threats are expected to increase across Georgia this weekend, state officials are urging everyone to take steps now to be ready especially across north Georgia and metro Atlanta.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp took to social media and spoke with local news outlets Wednesday to remind residents that with potential snow, ice, and freezing temperatures on the horizon, preparation is key.

“Take this time to secure food, fill up on gas, and ensure you’re prepared for any potential loss of power,” Kemp said. “We’ll get through this as we have before, carefully and together.”

Officials say that winter weather impacts — from icy roads to possible power interruptions — could start Saturday and extend through Sunday. That means now is the time to plan, especially if you live in areas where snow and ice are more likely.

Steps You Can Take Today
Here are practical tips to help keep you and your loved ones safe this weekend:
- Stock up on essentials non-perishable food, water, and any medications you
may need.
- Fill up your gas tank so you’re not caught unprepared if travel becomes
difficult.
- Charge devices and flashlights in case of a power outage.
- Prepare for possible power loss with blankets, warm clothes, and safe
heating options.
- State agencies — including Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland - Security — say they are already mobilizing crews and resources to treat
highways and respond to whatever this storm may bring.
