You guys! Lizzo finally dropped her latest single, and it’s “About Damn Time,” no but like literally, cause that’s actually the name of the track. So grab your swimsuits, or sparkly blue bodysuits, “turn up the music and turn down the lights,” because according to our favorite twerking flutist, we’ve been blessed with the “song of the summer.”

Her first release of 2022, and a feel-good groovy one at that, was the final “Hail Mary” addition to her officially completed album Special, set to drop July 15.
As Lizzo revealed during her recent Audacy Check In, for her the song is a melodic cure for not just “being down and out about ourselves, but about life,” she said. Adding, “I think life had thrown some major traumas and hard experiences at us, especially globally these last few years. And I wanted to write a song that allowed us to take a moment and celebrate our survival, and celebrate how far we’ve come. And I think ‘About Damn Time’ does just that — it does it for me honey.”
In the Christian Breslauer-directed music video, Lizzo finds herself at a Stressed & Sexy support group. When asked to share her poem with the class, she stressfully runs out of the room. Once the doors close behind her, the music starts, and the sexy magic begins.
Unable to control herself, Lizzo’s shoulders begin to bop to the beat, and she proceeds to hype herself up with line after line of positive lyrics. “It's bad b**** o'clock, yeah, it's thick-thirty / I've been through a lot, but I'm still flirty (Okay),” she sings, followed up by the empowering pre-chorus, “Oh, I been so down and under pressure / I'm way too fine to be this stressed, yeah / Oh, I'm not the girl I was or used to be, uh / B****, I might be better.” Before belting, “Turn up the music, turn down the lights / I’ve got a feeling I’m gonna be all right / Okay (Okay), alright / It's about damn time,” on the fun-filled chorus.
Initially in gray sweats, Lizzo peeps her glamorized confident self in the mirror sporting a sparkly blue cut-out bodysuit and voluminous hair and fierce glam, which turns out to be her true self all along. Once the camera turns back to the non-reflective Lizzo, she’s rocking that very same look.
As she continues on grooving to the electrifying beats down the now disco-lit hallway floor, Lizzo continues on to take over the building, turning it into her own personal stress-free dance party, which included dancing in neon-lit cubicles, doing the splits with a mop in hand, and of course our fave, a pool twerking flute solo amongst synchronized swimmers.
