Despite the win, the Hawks are just 18-25 and currently hold the 12 seed in the Eastern Conference. The team needs to go on a run if it wants to extend the season beyond 82 games.

"We had a real good performance in Miami and just couldn't hang on, and last night we played well and we have to just keep building on that," says Atlanta Hawks GM Travis Schlenk. "We can't have any slippage. We put ourselves in this hole and the best way to get out is start digging right now.

"We've seen this group be successful, so we know it's in them, we just have to play with that sense of urgency. We have to keep building on it possession by possession, game by game, and that's what we need to focus on."

The Hawks are 9.5 games out of first place, but just 4.5 games out of the 8 seed. So a few winning streaks could still see them find their way into the playoffs, or at least a play-in tournament.
