Spencer Strider is a huge betting favorite to win the NL Cy Young Award in 2024, having odds of +425, followed by Zack Wheeler at +1000 and a trio of pitchers at +1200 (Max Fried, Logan Webb, and Freddy Peralta). Armed with a new pitch, a curveball he added this summer, expectations are sky-high for Strider, but can he meet them?
Strider led MLB in wins (21) and strikeouts (281) last season, but finished fourth in Cy Young voting receiving ZERO first-place votes. Strider’s ERA was 3.86 and was likely the main culprit that he wasn't more seriously considered for the award a year ago.
Strider will be the Braves Opening Day Starter and will have a chance to kick off his Cy Young campaign when they take on the Philadelphia Phillies to open up the season on Thursday (weather permitting)
