Fans wanted Trae Young in All-Star game, but why didn't the media?

The Morning Shift tries to understand why Trae Young is once again an All-Star snub

For the second year in a row Trae Young isn't an All-Star. Despite finishing second in the fan vote, when the final vote that includes a mix of the fan vote, media vote, and player vote Trae finished fourth among Eastern Conference guards. Last night it was announced on TNT that the six-year NBA veteran is not going to be an All-Star reserve either, but why? Tiffany and Beau gave their explanations on The Morning Shift earlier today.

Yes the Hawks are 20-27 and good players on winning teams usually make the All-Star team, and yes there are a lot of good guards in the Eastern Conference that are deserving, but Young is averaging 27 points per game and averaging 10.9 assists per game, and is clearly the best player on a team that is full of pieces that don’t fit.

With Trae finishing second in solely the fan vote, NBA fans clearly think he’s fun to watch and want to see him in the All-Star game, but for some reason there is a disconnect between Trae Young, the media, and even the players.

When it comes to the media, ever since Trae Young and Luka Dončić were traded for each other on draft night it seems like media members had to pick a side, pick a team that won the trade, and choose between Luka and Trae. A Lot of the media chose the side of Luka, exclaimed the Mavericks won the trade, and that Luka would have a better career, so maybe now those media members are just trying to prove themselves right.

Trae has never had any real beef with any players, but maybe players just view him as a guy that’s not a team player or a coach killer, but whatever the case is it just seems like Trae has never gotten a fair shake when it comes to his media perception, and now for the second straight season that perception has stopped him from being an All-Star.
