The City of Stockbridge has officially taken the first step in getting its own police department. City council voted 3-2 last night naming Frank Trammer as its new police chief. Trammer is currently the Deputy Chief of Police at Georgia Tech. He has also worked with the Atlanta Police Department and the Sandy Springs Police Department.

Mayor of Stockbridge Anthony Ford says Frammer will most likely start the position on October 4th.

Voting in opposition were council members LaKeisha Gantt and John Blount. Both had said they wanted more information about how Stockbridge plans to pay for the police department.

City council has approved $3 million in bonds to start up the department. It will allow the city to purchase police cars and other equipment. The bonds add a half million dollars in yearly debt repayments for seven years. Repayment starts next year.
