Wrestling fans around the world are mourning the loss of Hulk Hogan, one of the most recognizable figures in professional wrestling history.
Born Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan passed away peacefully at his Clearwater, Florida home on Wednesday evening, according to a statement from his family. The cause of death has not been disclosed at this time.
Hogan rose to superstardom in the 1980s as the face of the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE), helping usher in a new era of sports entertainment with his larger-than-life personality, signature moves, and unforgettable catchphrase, "Whatcha gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild on you?!"
His influence extended beyond the wrestling ring with appearances in movies, TV shows, and commercials, making him a household name across generations. Over the years, he became a 12-time world champion and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice,once individually and once as a member of the nWo.
In recent years, Hogan had been open about his health struggles but remained active in the wrestling community and connected with fans on social media.
Hulk Hogan is survived by his wife Sky Daily and his children, Brooke and Nick. He was 71 years old.
