Kirk Cousins’ injury revelation will benefit Falcons in long run

Yesterday on Good Morning Football Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins revealed that he suffered shoulder and elbow injuries in week 10 against the New Orleans Saints that he said affected his play when he originally claimed he was healthy back when the Falcons were still in season. Cousins also talked about how he never got his elbow and shoulder back to where he wanted it to be for the rest of the season.

The Falcons lost that game against the Saints, and would go on to lose three more games after that, and during that stretch the Falcons then starting quarterback saw his production take a massive decline, Kirk threw eight interceptions and zero touchdown passes during that four game losing streak. Rightfully so, Falcons fans haven’t taken this news well, and the Falcons organization probably doesn’t feel great about it either, but earlier today The Morning Shift explained why Kirk Cousins’ recent injury revelation will benefit the Falcons.

“This is perfect for the Atlanta Falcons right now. This could not have happened any better for the Atlanta Falcons. They couldn't have asked this man to go out and say more on a national television broadcast on Super Bowl week than they did last week.” Mike Johnson said.

Mike continues by talking about how Cousins basically did all the hard work and answered all of the hard questions for Falcons General Manager Terry Fonetenot for when he tries to find a trade partner for Kirk Cousins.

“If you are a GM of another team or a head coach of another team and you just simply watched the end of the Kirk Cousins starting quarterback era in the Atlanta Falcons and  you thought to yourself well that’s not good, and then you check the injury report and he’s not on the injury report and you keep wondering is he healthy and everybody is telling you he’s healthy, and now if you’re looking for a quarterback next year you’re going I ain’t touching that guy, he’s fully healthy and he falls off a cliff.” Johnson said

Mike continued by saying “Now he comes out and talks about it on Good Morning Football or whatever it was and he says you know I gotta get back healthy, I can’t help anybody, we’ll know more come March. That is like shooting up a flare in the sky and saying I wasn’t myself last year, I promise I'm gonna be better next year, and then he says I have a lot more good football left in me. I mean like Terry Fontenot couldn’t have walked out a PR rep and had a better segment than what Terry Fontenot had yesterday on this show. It’s incredible for Terry Fontenot.”

If Fontenot and the Falcons play their cards right Cousins may’ve actually given them some leverage they didn’t originally have when it comes to trying to trade the veteran quarterback, so even though Kirks’ injury revelation doesn’t make Falcons fans feel good right now it may actually come back to help the Falcons in the near future, and then and only then Falcons fans won’t feel as betrayed and disappointed as they do now.
