The Atlanta Falcons officially introduced Raheem Morris as their head coach last week. The hire surprised several in the national media as the expectation was that Bill Belichick was the front-runner all the way up to the announcement of Morris -- so much so that Boomer Esiason claimed that he was told by a "league executive" that the former Patriot actually rejected the job.
Falcons owner Arthur Blank rejected these rumors on Friday, and The Steakhouse reacted to the comments on Monday morning.
"I'm just confused as to how Boomer Esiason can just throw those types of narratives out," Butler said about the alleged reports that said Belichick turned down the job. "[He's] essentially just shooting from the hip."
"If Bill Belichick was offered the job, guess what, we would've been at a press conference and Bill Belichick would've been sitting on the stage next to Terry Fontenot," Steak said. "It's very simple -- he wanted the job, he wanted to keep coaching, he wants to break [Don Shula's] record."
Arthur Blank was clearly interested in bringing in the eight-time Super Bowl winning coach, but it also became clear that the desire began to dip when the rest of the hiring team joined the fold. They said as much last week when they confirmed to the media that it was a unanimous decision to NOT hire Belichick.
"Arthur came in hot, [and said] 'I want Belichick'," Steak finished. "He came in super hot and then cooler heads prevailed."
