As NFL free agency continues and moves continue to be made around the league the Atlanta Falcons, with the amount of cap space they had coming into free agency, have expectedly been one of the most active teams during this free agency period. However, while the Atlanta Falcons continue to round out their roster they still have a couple of holes they need to fill on their team.

The Falcons still need to figure out what the plan is at left guard, and even though the Falcons brought in free agent wide receiver Mack Hollins, earlier this week the Falcons might actually want to look into getting another receiver. Now, yes they have Drake London, yes they have Mack Hollins, and you could even say they have Kyle Pitts who is a tight end/receiver hybrid, but none of those guys are really receivers that can absolutely blow the top off the defense with their speed, the Falcons still need that.

If the Atlanta Falcons are looking for a deep threat there is a receiver who is reportedly available via trade or might even be released, and this receiver also has played in Arthur Smith’s offense and had his best years in Arthur Smith’s offense. This receiver is Corey Davis, and earlier this Morning Mike, Tiffany, and Beau discussed the possibility of the Atlanta Falcons trading for wide receiver Corey Davis on The Morning Shift.

In 2020 with the Tennessee Titans Corey Davis had his career high in receiving yards, touchdowns, receptions per game, yards per game, yards per target, first downs, and he tied his career high in receptions. He had his career high in all of those categories in Arthur Smith’s offense. Beau believes Corey Davis’ fit on the Falcons would be “intriguing”, and the success that he had in Arthur Smith’s offense is part of the reason that makes it intriguing.

Beau says “Once again we’re talking about a player who’s played under Arthur Smith who, coincidentally, had his best years under Arthur Smith. The problem for me with this is he’s a free agent after this season, he comes with a $10 million dollar price tag.” Beau also wonders if Davis would be willing to re-work his contract, and how much he has left in the tank saying “What do I have to give up, and he’s got to re-work his deal to bring him in here because Corey Davis fits the Arthur Smith mold.” Beau finishes his thought by saying “I’m just not giving up a lot for a guy that I know I have to extend, and what does he have left because he’s come on lean times.”

Mike believes the Falcons still need another receiver, and Corey Davis could be an option to fill that need saying “they have to add a receiver at some point, so maybe this is somebody you can kick the tires on.” Tiffany believes the move could be worth wild because of the fact Arthur Smith knew how to get the best out of the fifth overall pick back in 2017.

The Atlanta Falcons obviously have other options besides Corey Davis, the Falcons could re-sign Olamide Zaccheaus who is a vertical threat, but doesn’t have great size, or they could address the need somewhere in the NFL Draft. The Falcons have a lot of big and physical receivers who will make contested catches, but it seems like any and all championship football teams have a receiver who takes the top off a defense and the Falcons need to find that if they want to hoist the Lombardi trophy sooner rather than later.
