The future of Arthur Smith as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons has grown in doubt after the team's frustrating 9-7 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The team has fallen to 6-8 on the season and major question marks remain around the team, especially at the quarterback position.
Many have called for the firing of the team's head coach after a seemingly regressive third season, but we took a different approach on The Steakhouse this morning. Mark Zinno makes the case for why the Atlanta Falcons should retain the embattled man in charge despite the outside noise.
"Why are you so loyal to him?" Sandra asked Zinno on Thursday's edition of The Steakhouse. "I want to hear [why]."
"The Falcons numbers don't equate to what their record is," Zinno replied. "Their numbers are better than what their record is. Meaning that, in theory, if you believe in process over results, then [Arthur Smith's] process is sound and that the results, over the course of time, will start to bear themselves out in a more beneficial manner."
The Atlanta Falcons have reached the 400-yard mark in five games this season -- and one more that they reached 396. Zinno went on to tell the audience that numbers like that don't just happen by "luck," but by scheme and play-calling.
"There's a lot of teams that don't get to 400 yards in half of their games," Zinno continued to say. "There are teams with better records than the Falcons that haven't done that. The difference is, how do you get the yards to amount to points? That's really where it's failed."
Sandra pushed back at his thought, "I think the numbers you're talking about are hot garbage. Because the only number that matters in your winning and your losing. You're 6-8 in year three, and I was told by Arthur Blank that this was a three year process. We're in year three."
