Falcons QB battle still yet to begin
Since the start of training camp, the Atlanta Falcons quarterback room has been the center of local and national media conversations as Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa are expected to compete to earn the starting position, however, some would say the competition has yet to begin as Penix Jr. still awaits clearance to be a full participant.
And while Tagovailoa has been taking all of the first team reps during training camp and was the starter in the Falcons’ preseason opening loss to the Denver Broncos, his performance in the two series he played, left some to question whether or not Penix Jr. will be awarded the starting job once cleared and is able to get adequate time in 11 on 11 activities.
“You get until November, and then if it’s not you’re proving to be a really good player by November, we’re going to somebody else,” ESPN NFL analyst and former quarterback, Dan Orlovsky said as he explained why he believes Tagolailoa’s time as the Falcons QB! Could last well into the fall.
“November!” 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell said in shock to Orlovsky’s comments, agreeing that if Tagovailoa is not playing up to par, the Falcons cannot wait until November to make a change. “Look, I have to tell you something, if we get to November and things are not bad, that becomes another conversation. Why would you go ahead and start a guy in November?” Dukes asked.Falcons have a small window to make a QB change
