Hawks eyeing 'crop of backcourt talent' ahead of NBA Draft
NBA Draft will begin on Tuesday and continue through Wednesday, the Atlanta Hawks are not waiting until they are on the clock with the No. 8 overall pick to make roster moves as it was reported on Sunday the team agreed to a one-year contract extension of CJ McCollum and agreed to trade future second-round picks to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for guard Aaron Wiggins.
And while the Hawks retaining McCollum and adding Wiggins provides them with veteran experience and depth at the guard position, ClutchPoints NBA Insider and reporter, Brett Siegel joined 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell to explain why he believes Atlanta may look to add another guard to the roster with the eighth overall pick.
“That’s the sense I’ve gotten throughout the pre-draft process is that the Hawks are looking at this crop of backcourt talent that’s available in the top ten,” Siegel said as he explained why he believes the Hawks could have their sights set on multiple prospects, including Illinois’ Keaton Wagler, who he “believes is number one on their board,”, Kingston Flemings of Houston or Louisville guard, Mikel Brown Jr., who Siegel says would be a “dream scenario,” if were to be available when the Hawks are on the clock at No. 8.
“There’s a tone of guard prospects that Atlanta can go after here, and I know there’s been talk about Aday Mara as well. We’ve reported on that, that he is also in consideration for those[first-round] picks. I just get the sense that from what the Hawks are doing, especially after last night in going to get Aaron Wiggins, that they’re going to look to cement their backcourt of the future and it does seem like they’re going to be going with a guard in that eighth spot,” Siegel said.Hawks head into Tuesday's NBA Draft with No. 8 overall pick
