In a recent interview on "Good Vibes" U.S. Business Lead for Vivo Fashion Michelle Gatonye discussed the brand's expansion into Atlanta with its first U.S. store at Atlantic Station.
Originally founded in 2011 in Kenya by two Black women entrepreneurs, Vivo Fashion aims to address a market gap for affordable, stylish clothing that caters specifically to Black women's bodies. Beginning humbly in a living room, the brand quickly grew to encompass 27 stores across East Africa, focusing on inclusive sizing and vibrant, bold prints that celebrate African heritage.
Ms. Gatonye highlighted Vivo's commitment to sustainability and community engagement, noting their employment of over 200 women in Kenyan production facilities. The brand's product range has expanded beyond its roots in dance and fitness wear to include casual, streetwear, and occasion wear, all designed to provide options that resonate with diverse tastes and lifestyles.
Located strategically at Atlantic Station, Vivo's Atlanta store aims to be more than a retail space. It promises a cultural experience with Afrobeats music, occasional DJ events, and opportunities to explore locally made Kenyan products such as jewelry and home goods.
For those unable to visit the store, Vivo offers an online platform featuring its full range of products, shipped directly from Atlanta to ensure timely delivery throughout the U.S.
With its emphasis on bold colors, inclusive sizing up to 4X, and a commitment to community integration, Vivo Fashion seeks to carve out a niche in Atlanta's vibrant fashion scene.
