Are road trips part of your routine?

How 'bout around 200 steak or lobster dinners?   More on that in a moment, tho'.

But back to the road trips.   If you find yourself on the roads a fair bit, you might want to put Genesis' finest on your radar.

Genesis' G90 is the "Big Daddy" of the Genesis line…sized and equipped to compete with the large, luxury 4-doors from Europe and Japan's finest.

The big difference?

The Genesis is from three to a big twenty thousand less than those other guys.

So if the Genesis costs less, what's it missing?

Not a heck of a lot as far as we could tell.

We tested the "entry-level" G90…with a 365 HP 3.3 liter turbo six, 19' alloys, genuine wood, Nappa heated and cooled leather, suede microfibre headliner, a 17-speaker sound system, 7-color ambient lighting, 8-speed auto, Surround-view, heads-up display, and just about every front / rear / side alert available these days.   And as you're probably aware, some of these standard features are extra-cost options with some of the competition.

And while Genesis doesn't offer heated armrests, they do offer a couple of unique "extras".   One is their "Safe Exit" which monitors the street-side real door…and sends an alert if it detects traffic that may make opening the door unsafe.

And another special feature is Genesis' 22-way "Smart Posture Care" drivers' seat.   A computer takes your physical profile into consideration and calculates the ideal driving position for you and adjusts the steering wheel, outside mirrors and heads-up position automatically for you.

So how does it drive?   As with most high-end vehicles these days, you can select from a variety of comfort, sport, and personalized settings.   In comfort, this Genesis is almost pothole-proof.   Soft, but soft in a good way.   Well-behaved and perfectly composed on winding roads, but oh so gentle on the kidneys.

And as for power, punch this V-6 really hard and it'll snap your head back.   Personally I see no real need for the available 5.0 420 HP V-8.

Our "Premium" G90 had an all-in window-sticker of $73,195…and was EPA rated at 17 city and 25 Highway MPG.   We averaged right around 21 for our week-long test.

AWD runs $2,500 more if you need it…and if you still think that you need that V-8, even with AWD, the V-8 will still come in around 79K.

So what about those 200 steak or lobster or fancy Italian dinners?   That's what a Genesis G90 will save you over some of its highest-priced competitors.

And one more thing.   For full-sized luxury cars, JD Power has named the G90 as both the highest in initial quality as well as the highest in long-term quality.   That plus Genesis' 10-year / 100,000 limited powertrain warranty should give those of us who "marry" their vehicles for the long-term…or those looking for a pre-owned bargain…some real comfort.
