It was a beautiful ceremony yesterday in Atlanta as WAOK's very own, Derrick Boazman, was honored by the city of Atlanta for being an outstanding civic and community leader.

At city hall, his support stood strong behind him as many people spoke about his tenacity for service and helping the community in which he grew up. While people shared their fondest memories of Boazman, it was undeniable that this award was well deserved.

Mayor Andre Dickens was one of many who spoke on behalf of Boazman and shared how influential he believes Boazman is to the community, from his work with radio, his long track-record of activism and uplifting others.

"The people honor you and respect you because of the man that you are," Dickens said, "it's an honor to be in your presence."

"I am shockingly embarrassed... to be recognized and do what God called me to do," Boazman said humbly during his acceptance speech before cracking a joke, "I tried to tell them not to do this because usually they do this for people who go 'home' a few weeks later."

You can catch "Too Much Truth" with Derrick Boazman from 4-7 p.m. on weekdays.
