Friends close to Chaka Zulu describe him as 'awake and alert' after undergoing surgery earlier today.
Zulu, longtime manager for rapper/actor Ludacris, was among 3 people shot shortly after 11:00 Sunday night outside a Buckhead restaurant on Peachtree Road. According to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office, 23 year old Artez Benton later died.
Also co-founder and co-CEO of Disturbing Tha Peace Records, Zulu is well-known in the Atlanta community. When recognized by the Atlanta Hawks in January as their ninth Forever 404 Honors recipient, Zulu said “It is an honor to serve and be appreciated by the city of Atlanta, that has given me so much. With such a rich history of men and women who have been celebrated and truly embody the spirit of the community being more important than the individual."
According to the Atlanta Police Department, the search continues for those responsible for the Sunday night shooting. This investigation remains active and ongoing at this time, according to an APD press release.
