Renowned board-certified OB/GYN and Menopause Society Certified Dr. L. Dawn Mandeville joined "Let's Talk About It With The Turners" for a candid conversation about perimenopause, menopause, and why women no longer have to suffer in silence.
From hot flashes and mood changes to misunderstood symptoms and long-standing myths, Dr. Mandeville broke down the biology behind menopause in plain language explaining how hormonal shifts affect everything from the brain to the bones, and why so many women are caught off guard.
“Nothing is wrong with you,” Dr. Mandeville emphasized. “This is a normal transition. It doesn’t feel good, but it’s not a disease and women deserve options.”
The discussion tackled the long lasting impact of fear surrounding hormone therapy, clarifying misconceptions tied to outdated studies and highlighting evidence that early, informed treatment can improve quality of life and long-term health outcomes. She also spoke about how women of color often experience earlier, longer, and more severe symptoms.
Beyond medicine, listeners were introduced to Dr. Mandeville’s creative and empowering approach to advocacy, including Menopause & Mocktails, a fresh way to open conversations around women’s health without shame or stigma.
Dr. Mandeville also announced the Atlanta premiere of The M Factor 2: Before the Pause, a documentary focused on perimenopause and the early signs many women overlook. The screening will take place Saturday, February 7, at the Tara Theatre, followed by a community discussion aimed at education, empowerment, and understanding for women and men.
