Congressman Hank Johnson calls January 6, 2021, "a dangerous, shocking, and dramatic day." Johnson was trapped inside the U.S. House chamber with some of his colleagues when the Capitol riot occurred.
Johnson is hosting an interfaith and public policy forum Thursday to mark a year since the insurrection. He tells Audacy Atlanta's Maria Boynton the discussion is being held "to make sure that people never forget."
The virtual roundtable discussion titled: “Root Causes of the Insurrection: Securing Democracy For All" is Thursday from 4-5:30pm. It can be accessed
via Zoom and on the Congressman’s Facebook page: @RepHankJohnson.
Rep. Johnson says that he was among the last to be freed from the "throws of the insurrectionists" inside the U.S. Capitol a year ago, on January 6, 2021.
Hundreds of rioters are charged for their actions. At least 16 of them have Georgia connections.
