Usually when the Atlanta Falcons offense has struggled this season it’s been mostly due to bad play calling or play design by Offensive Coordinator Zac Robinson, and only some poor execution by players. However, that was not the case yesterday when the Falcons lost to the Indianapolis Colts 31-25 in overtime in Berlin, Germany, and earlier today The Morning Shift explained why Zac Robinson is not to blame for the Falcons shortcomings on offense yesterday.
“Yesterday a lot of the blame as far as offensive struggles go to bad footwork, underthrows, overthrows, he missed, 12 of 28 is not Zac Robinson okay, that’s the quarterback.” Beau Morgan says
Beau also directly mentions two separate plays where Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts drops an easy catch that would’ve gone for a touchdown, and then Michael Penix Jr. underthrows a ball to Pitts that would’ve been another easy touchdown.
Just like any other team in the NFL the Falcons can’t afford to miss out on explosive play and touchdown opportunities. Now at 3-6, Atlanta’s margin for error to make the playoffs is razor thin, so if the Falcons are going to break their seven year postseason drought they have to start winning games, and to do that they must start executing at a much higher level than they did yesterday.
