2 Illinois COVID-19 Testing Sites For First Responders Open

NORTHLAKE, ILL. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The state's first two coronavirus testing sites specifically for first responders are up and running in the suburbs.The drive-up facilities in Walmart parking lots in Joliet and Northlake are offering tests for doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers -- as well as police officers and firefighters.Northlake Police Chief Norman Nissen said through the public-private partnership they were able to test 20 emergency responders yesterday at the Walmart on North Avenue.Officers are helping control traffic around the site, which has attracted a lot of interest from the public, Nissen said.He said the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will open more drive-up testing sites as they streamline the process.The facilities expect to administer tests to about 70 people each day between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.Those looking to get tested for coronavirus must have photo identification and proof they work as emergency responders.
