The Chicago Bears have selected Utah CB Jaylon Johnson with the 50th pick in the NFL Draft on Friday night.

Here's what you need to know about Johnson:

Measurables: 6'0"/193

School: Utah

2019 Stats: 36 tackles, 2 INT, 11 PD,

Accolades: 2019 All-American, First-Team All-Pac 12 (2019, 2018),

Strengths:

• Physical press corner who jams receivers at line of scrimmage and alters press technique• Explosive vertical helps eliminate jump balls• Exceptional ball skills; rake-it-or-take-it mentality

Weaknesses:

• Lacks quickness and mobility to excel in zone, off-man coverage• Tendency to get grabby• Undisciplined eyes -- loses sight of receiver when focusing on backfield• Coming off shoulder surgery

"Boundary bully with an improving skill set to clamp down on WR1s and limit their exposure to the football. Johnson is built for press, with the size, length and athleticism to force receivers to work harder getting into their routes. His eagerness to stay tight to the route leads to inconsistent balance and positioning from time to time, but his foot quickness and agility allow for rapid recoveries. He's equipped to play the deep ball but needs to fully prove himself in that area. He's a physical press corner with off-man ability whose anticipation and ball skills should continue to help him make plays as a CB1 and first-round pick." -Lance Zeirlein, NFL.com

Johnson and Griffin both have similar build and play physical press coverage. Griffin had his ups and downs through his first two seasons in the league before putting together a Pro Bowl season in 2019. Johnson could have a similar trajectory as he has some concerns on his zone coverage, but it is all going to be about finding the right scheme for Johnson to excel in at the next level.
