(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An Aurora man faces a reckless conduct charge after he allegedly shot his neighbor with an arrow by accident.
Police say a resident was painting the front of his home in the 3100 block of Timber Hill Lane around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when he felt a “sharp pain” in one of his knees. The home owner saw an arrow protruding from his leg and called 9-1-1.
The injured man was transported to a hospital with what authorities say was a non-life-threatening injury.
Police, meanwhile, interviewed a 25-year-old neighbor across the street. They say Daniel Smorczewski told officers he had been in his backyard using a bow and arrow and was shooting at a fake deer target.
“He then told officers that one of the arrows missed the target, and he lost track of it,” Aurora police said in a news release.
Smorczewski said he packed up the bow and target and put them in his garage before officers and medics arrived.
Smorczewski was arrested and charged with a Class A Misdemeanor count of reckless conduct.
Aurora police say arrows should never be shot in a residential area.
