ComEd Staffing Up For Ice Storm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- ComEd says it will have extra crews on duty for the ice storm that's expected to hit the Chicago area.

"This is actually the first time in 10 years that the National Weather Service has issued an ice storm warning for this area,” noted John Schoen, a spokesman for the utility.

"We're upping our staffing so that we can begin to respond."

Schoen said customers who lose power should let ComEd know. Stay away from downed power lines, he said.

The Chicago area could get three-tenths to four-tenths of an inch of ice.

It doesn't take much to bring down a power line, Schoen said.

One good thing: The ice storm is not expected to bring a lot of wind.
