DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- For some high school seniors involved in music in the western suburbs, the shows must go on, and they start later this week.
Band, choir, and orchestra senior solos by students at Downers Grove North begin Thursday. While the COVID-19 pandemic has closed Illinois schools, the young musicians of the Downers Grove North High Wind Ensemble and District 99 Symphonic Orchestra will take their talents to the internet for a series of live-streamed broadcasts.
Not only will District 99 students and parents be able to tune in, but performances are also being made available to local hospitals, nursing homes, and retirement communities. Community members can view the broadcasts live on the DGN Fine Arts Department YouTube channel.
“Streaming our seniors final performances will give the students a sense of performing in front of a live audience, as they would have if school was in session,” District 99 Orchestra Director Jennifer Mullen said. “The students are very excited to know that their senior solo will be shared with patients and residents at local hospitals and nursing homes.”
