(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicagoland Fishing, Travel and Outdoors Expo is baiting the hook for fishing fans at the Schaumburg Convention Center for the next four days.
So what if the thermometer will be struggling most of the weekend to stay above zero? Show manager Tod Alberto said the Expo can warm you up inside.
There are lessons from the pros, plenty of tackle and boats for sale. If that doesn't hook you, maybe the fishing and vacation packages offered by dozens of boats, lodges and hotels will reel you in.
Each of 75 fishing boats can be purchased and taken home.
Fishing pros will give "how to" lessons at a 5,000-gallon glass-walled tank. You can learn how to fly-cast at a 50 foot pond. Children can learn how to tie a fly and can view one under a microscope.
The expo is not just focused on fish. Alberto said an aviary will feature owls, hawks and falcons.
The Expo is open from 12 noon until 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday, and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $13 for adults all four days and $3 for children Thursday through Saturday.
On Sunday, children 11 and under attend for free; the first 100 children get a free rod and reel.
Last year, more than 20,000 people attended the Expo.
