(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two graduating seniors at a west suburban high school have found a way to give their classmates a digital pat on the back.
Olivia Wirtz started an Instagram page to celebrate the Lyons Township High School Class of 2020 because of the traditions they were missing this year.
"It's kind of cheesy, but senior ditch day — we didn't get that. We do a senior brunch, which we're not going to get to have," she said.
The class page she started includes her pictures of her classmates and information about their plans after high school.
Wirtz says at least 333 graduating seniors of 1,000 students have submitted information. She believes more will submit material once they decide what they're going to do.
Helping in the effort has been classmate Chris Vasti.
"People reached out and explained how grateful they were that we were doing this, and it gave our class another way to kind of come together through all of this," he said. "Although we're not together physically, we were able to come together through this, at least."
For him, the "lthsseniors2020" Instagram page was a good way to take the place of Lyons Township High School's annual College or Decision Day, in which graduating seniors represent via apparel what they plan to do after high school.
"All the kids would have worn a shirt of the college that they're attending or whatever they're doing after school, something to represent that," he explained.
