(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago doctor says now is the time to be on high alert for what's being called "caution fatigue" when it comes to COVID-19 and its safety precautions.
Dr. Melinda Ring is Executive Director of the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at Northwestern University. She says with so much information out there about the coronavirus, it can be easy to get overwhelmed — and even start to slack off.
"At some point, we can actually have a negative response," Ring said. "We step back, kind of emotionally shutdown and start to lose faith in these kinds of warnings when we're under these constant and prolonged threats."
Ring says the caution fatigue can lead to increased anxiety and depression, and even physical conditions such as insomnia.
As for ways to avoid it, she advises unplugging from your TV or phone every now and maintaining a healthy diet.
Ring recommends practicing "simple things like gratitude practice and acknowledging the good things in your life."
