State Health Officials: 1,656 New COVID-19 Cases, 57 More Deaths

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Illinois Department of Public Health reported Sunday 1,656 new cases of COVID-19, including 57 additional deaths.

Since the pandemic began, 77, 741 cases, including 3,406 deaths, have been reported in 98 counties in Illinois. The age in cases ranges from younger than 1 and older than 100 years. 


Between Saturday and Sunday, laboratories have processed more than 130,000 specimens for a total of more than 429,000 across the state.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced Thursday that he and IDPH commissioner Dr. Ngozi Ezike would no longer be holding in-person coronavirus briefings beginning this weekend. Instead, they would release daily medical statistics on Saturday and Sunday. Weekday meetings will resume on Monday and will continue at its usual 2:30 p.m. start time.
