(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Lightscape — the after-dark holiday light display at the Chicago Botanic Garden — is expected to be back this year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event sold out last year, its debut at the Botanic Garden in north suburban Glencoe.

And tickets are expected to go fast this year. Fewer people will be admitted because of coronavirus-related restrictions.

The garden’s vice president of visitor experiences, Harriet Resnick, was asked if there was any thought given to canceling the event outright.

“We’ve been holding our breath,” Resnick said Wednesday.

“Luckily things are going fairly well in Illinois, at least in this region. And that’s how we are following state and local guidelines for everything we do here at the garden.”

Lightscape is set to run Nov. 13 through Jan. 3.

Last year, 5,200 people per night walked through. This year, only 3,000 per night are allowed.
