CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Students from Chicago's Lincoln Park High School staged a walkout Monday morning to protest the suspension of school leaders and the boy's varsity basketball season.

"We were told through email that our new principal and vice principal were no longer working at our school. Along side them, our Dean of Students and the entire basketball team staff were removed from their positions. We got a vaguely explained email and were were left to take it in on our own and expected to come to school on Monday like nothing happened," said Nyquera Boclair, 17, Senior, Lincoln Park High School.

In a letter sent to parents last week, Chicago Public Schools announced the district removed Interim Principal John Thuet and Assistant Principal Michelle Brumfield from their positions and reassigned boy's basketball coach Donovan Robinson and Dean John Johnson pending the outcome of an investigation. The basketball team's season was also suspended.

CPS officials would only say it was the result of "multiple allegations of of serious misconduct."

"I felt disappointment, stress, confused," he said.

"We've worked too hard to come this far just to have our season come to an end. Yeah, it's pretty messed up."

Besides the walkout, an online petition has been posted seeking to allow the boy's basketball team to play in a city playoff game this week.

All of the students say they were given no specifics about the reasons behind the decisions.

"Give us the full story and maybe we'll understand. We need to know, its our school," he said.

CPS is holding a meeting with parents Monday night.
