Cops Doubtful About Second Alligator Claim

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago police expressed doubt over a man's claims that he pulled an alligator out of Chicago's Humboldt Park lagoon Saturday night.

WBBM's Nancy Harty reports.

In a Facebook live video, a man is seen holding a small alligator, with its jaws taped shut. He says he pulled it Saturday evening from the Humboldt Park Lagoon, near the boathouse cafe.

Chicago police say they dispatched officers to the park and talked with the man and another person. By Sunday morning, authorities were dubious about the alligator story because of "inconsistencies" in their stories. Police also consulted with the alligator expert who helped capture a 4-foot-long specimen earlier this month. That animal, known locally as "Chance the Snapper," is at a Florida zoo.

The latest alligator -- nicknamed by someone in the video as "Second Chance" -- is with the city's Animal Care and Control Department.

The two men police interviewed this weekend were released, pending further investigation, Chicago police said.
