(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Metra Electric Line will not operate again, but not because of polar conditions. This time it's due to damage caused by a freight train derailment near Harvey.

Metra spokesman Michael Gillis says the derailment Wednesday of the Canadian National train did a lot of damage.

As for when service will resume, Gillis said Metra is taking it day-by-day.

Metra hopes to get a lot of the repairs done over the weekend and complete the work over the next few days, he said.

Metra will run limited shuttle buses between the Richton Park, 147th Street and Calumet stations on the Electric Line and selected stops on the Rock Island to help passengers with the commute.
