CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A week after looting crippled many Chicago business owners, Gov. JB Pritzker is telling the insurance industry it’s obligated to give its policy-holders the money they need to rebuild.

Pritzker says help from insurance companies cannot wait.

“Insurers must do the right thing - and do it fast, with all consideration to assisting business owners to get back up on their feet and reopen as soon as possible,” he said at a Monday news conference.

Standing with Pritzker was Felicia Goodwin, the owner of Z Couture, a women’s clothing shop in the 9200 block of South Stony Island.

Her shop was looted — clothes ripped off mannequins and her cash register found in the street.

“I cannot say enough on behalf of small business owners to the insurance companies to please come out. Don’t just ask us to make out a list. Come out and help us and assist us,” she said.

The governor says insurance companies should base payments for certain policies on pre-COVID business activity.
