CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Ronny’s Steakhouse announced it’s closing its doors for good.

The restaurant opened in 1963 and has been offering a quick meal to customers in downtown Chicago ever since.

In June, owner Kenny Munic told WBBM he was optimistic he'd be able to re-open, despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and recent vandalism.

But in a Facebook post on Sunday, Ronny’s Steakhouse, which is located at the corner of Clark and Lake streets, said it’s time to turn off that famous neon sign one final time.

"It’s been our honor and privilege to serve and employ our spectacular city’s citizens. From the corner of Randolph and State to Clark and Lake and all the locations in between, Ronny’s has stood as a beacon welcoming all of Chicago, and those from around the globe, into our dining room and family. For this, we will be eternally grateful," the Facebook post read.

The news was met with thousands of comments on social media from patrons sharing fond memories of their time at the steakhouse.
