(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 16-year-old cross country runner at Bolingbrook High School has multiple fractures after she was hit by a pickup truck early Saturday while riding her bicycle.
Her mother tells WBBM Newsradio’s Steve Miller her daughter is “strong, and she’s fighting.”
“She remembers everything,” says Jacqui Pannek, the mother of junior Kaylee Pannek.
“She was able to describe that she was kind of spun in the air and came down. She remembers waiting at the crosswalk and then when she had the right-of-way to go, she went. I mean, she remembers everything.”
Kaylee Pannek was hit by a pickup truck. The incident is still under investigation.
Jacqui Pannek says her daughter has multiple fractures, including a broken neck, back, nose, jaw and pelvis. The teen was still eager to start school.
“She was worried that we missed the pick-up to get the things she needed from the high school for this year. She was upset about that and was wondering when she could start back to school,” the mother said.
She says Kaylee loves running and loves soccer, and that’s what she has wanted to do in college.
Jacqui Pannek says: “I think she’s strong enough, and she’s a fighter,”
One of Jacqui’s co-workers has set up a Go Fund Me page to help the family.
