CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago police have released surveillance video showing a trio of suspects firing into an Avalon Park convenience store — a shooting that left a woman dead and four others wounded — in hopes the public will help them solve the crime.
The attackers got out of a car about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday at 79th Street and Avalon Avenue and walked up to front entrance of the store.
They opened the door and fired several shots inside before fleeing, police said.Another Chicago neighborhood was tormented by a senseless shooting at 7901 S. Avalon yesterday. February 27, 2020 Jaya Beemon, 18, was shot in the neck and pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Detectives believe the suspects were targeting a boy inside the store, according to Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
The wounded include: an 18-year-old woman who was shot in the back; a 63-year-old man who was shot in the leg; a 17-year-old girl, who was shot in the arm, chest and ankle; and a 19-year-old man, shot in the leg.
