DOLTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The village of Dolton has honored a resident born a century ago by naming a street after him.

Wayne Adams Sr. has lived 56 of his 100 years on Parkside Drive, which now also bears his name on an honorary street sign.

Adams sat with his four children and some of his nine grandchildren Monday for a ceremony in which Dolton Mayor Riley Rogers read a proclamation.

It honored Adams' service in the U.S. Army during World War II; his work as a racetrack announcer and his 73-year marriage.

In a booming voice, Adams shared the introduction he used to make at Raceway Park in Blue Island, one of the places he worked in a career that spanned 42 years, seven states and 2,625 races.

He said he's content to look at the new street sign from the passenger seat of a vehicle. His driver's license expired Monday, and he decided not to renew it.

The only regret he has is that his late wife Grace wasn't around Monday to enjoy the honor with him.
