CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Illinois has extended a tax credit that will keep TV shows like Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. in Chicago, at least for now.

Since 2008, Illinois has given more than a half-billion dollars in tax breaks to film and television production companies that have brought their shows, films and jobs to Illinois.

Governor Pritzker signed a 30 percent production tax credit on Thursday for television and film companies that work here.

"By extending this tax credit through at least 2026 we are guaranteeing that these jobs aren't going away anytime soon," Pritzker said.

Lead sponsor, State Senator Elgie Sims, said the jobs have been diverse in functions and opportunities.

"So I said look, I have to tell you, if the tax credit goes, we have to go," Wolf said.

The bill signing comes just days after a former Teamsters boss admitted shaking down the studio where the TV shows were filmed.
