CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Due to the extreme cold expected Wednesday, Metra announced it will operate on a modified schedule.
On Wednesday, Jan. 30, Metra will run its "Extreme Weather/Alternate" schedules. Be advised that regular service on the Heritage Corridor will run instead of an alternate schedule.
According to Metra, the schedules are designed to "reduce the use of mechanical equipment and the number of moves through switch points on the railroad, thereby minimizing opportunities for service disruptions."
Trains will operate with restricted speed when temperatures reach zero degrees or lower, Metra said.

Heritage Corridor
*Be advised that regular weekday service will run on the Heritage Corridor.
Metra said additional schedule changes may be made on Wednesday and riders should monitor platform announcements and visit the website. Thursday’s schedule is yet to be determined.
The South Shore Line is also making changes this week.
UPDATE: South Shore service is suspended for Wednesday, Jan. 30. Earlier Wednesday morning a test train encountered significant overhead wire problems. South Shore Line will evaluate weather and operating conditions throughout the day to make a determination about operations on Thursday.
On Friday, Feb. 1, WB Trains 6 and 14 will be bused between South Bend/Carroll Ave. EB Trains 401 & 403 will be canceled.
