Temperatures are expected to rise into the high 90s, according to the National Weather Service. Humidity and intense sun exposure can make temperatures feel as high as 112 degrees in some areas.

July 20, 2019 The National Weather service also is predicting thunderstorms to develop over far northern Illinois in the afternoon. Some of the storms could be severe, capable of producing damaging wind gusts to 70 mph, large hail, and heavy rain -- which could lead to isolated areas of flash flooding.

July 20, 2019 The effects of the heat Saturday could lead to heat-related illnesses with prolonged exposure. Those without air conditioning, elderly, small children, and pets are especially susceptible, the National Weather Service said; thefore, they encourage everyone to plan ahead.

July 19, 2019 "Have a cool place to shelter from the heat. Avoid outdoor activity, especially strenuous ones, during the peak heating times of the day," the NWS said.
Residents are advised to visit one of the
six cooling centers available, or to call 311 to find the closest near them:
- Englewood Center, 1140 W. 79th St.
- Garfield Center, 10 S. Kedzie Ave.
- King Center, 4314 S. Cottage Grove Ave.
- North Area Center, 845 W. Wilson Ave.
- South Chicago Center, 8650 S. Commercial Ave. and,
- Trina Davila Center, 4312 W. North Ave.
There will be a possible decrease in temperatures on Sunday.
