The Civilian Office of Police Accountability has shared videos from a police shooting last year involving a man allegedly holding a knife in a River North hotel.

Those are usually released within two months, but the agency says a court order had prevented it until Oct. 1.

Body camera videos from two dozen police officers are some of what COPA shared.

The shooting happened on the afternoon of April 7, 2025 inside the lobby of the Courtyard by Marriott on Hubbard.

COPA cites police in saying officers saw Demond Williams with a knife and chased him and used tasers to get him to drop it.

The videos show Williams get off an elevator and walk towards an officer.

COPA says two officers shot him and police recovered a knife.

He was hospitalized initially in critical condition.

Police say the then 46-year-old had an outstanding warrant at the time.

He was later charged with aggravated assault involving a peace officer and unlawful use of a weapon.

COPA encourages anyone with information or other videos to share those with them.
