MATTESON, Ill. (WBBM Newsradio) – An Amazon employee was fatally shot after an apparent argument in the parking lot of the company's fulfillment center in south suburban Matteson late Sunday, police said.
Officers responded just before midnight to the facility at 7001 Vollmer Road after reports of a shooting.
According to Matteson police, an employee became involved in an altercation with another person in the employee parking lot. During the confrontation, the suspect fired several shots, striking the employee before fleeing the scene on foot.
The victim was taken to St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, where he later died.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 26-year-old Dylan Perkins of Glenwood.
Investigators have not said what sparked the confrontation or whether the victim and suspect knew each other.
No arrests have been announced. Police said the suspect remains at large but there is no immediate threat to the public.
The Amazon facility was temporarily locked down following the shooting.
