CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Archdiocese of Chicago has changed its rules for mask-wearing at Masses in many communities.

According to the Archdiocese of Chicago, churches and chapels in Lake County and suburban Cook County, except for Oak Park and Evanston, will be able to be mask-optional at Masses, liturgies, and religious education classes.

This is the same rule that was announced this week for archdiocesan schools in those communities.

Masks will still be required in church halls, offices, and social gathering places in those parishes at least until Feb. 28 when Governor Pritzker’s mask mandate is lifted.

Masks will also still be required for Catholic schools and churches in the City of Chicago, Evanston, and Oak Park, because that’s what the health departments there require.
