If you’ve been scammed before, don’t assume it can’t happen again.

This week, the Better Business Bureau’s “Tip-Off to the Rip-Off” on WBBM helps you avoid a potential second round of scamming.

Fraudsters often target people who have already been scammed, offering to help recover their lost funds—for a price.

These scammers, who may already have your personal information, pose as government, bank, or law enforcement officials and claim they can help you get your money back. The catch? They want you to pay an upfront fee - and that is a major red flag.

Do not proceed with these offers—they’re likely scams designed to exploit people who are desperate to recover their lost money.

Also, be aware that fraudsters sometimes sell personal information of people they’ve scammed on the dark web, marking them as potential targets for future schemes.
